Moreno: What do you see as the biggest obstacle facing America today?
Gravel: The biggest obstacle facing America is the idea of our nation acting as an empire. We go around the country and sanction people to go to war, justified or not, like Vietnam and now the Iraq War. Dwight Eisenhower warned us about this with the Defense Industry. [Eisenhower states, "'In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes."]In effect, this is why the media and corporate society has worked over-time to silence my voice and keep me out of the debates. I wish to end the military-industrial complex.
