Willie Herath Interviews with Andrew Moreno

Visit De Novo Magazine to read our interivew with indie rocker, Willie Herath.

Willie Herath (pronounced like “Harris” with a big lisp) is an Illinois native; born and raised in Milan. Eight years ago, Willie ventured out to Hollywood in hopes of making it in the music business. As a child, his parents wouldn't allow him to listen to the radio or purchase music of his own. Eventually, Willie found a box of his father's old Beach Boys records which filled an enormous musical void inside of him. He started to learn how to play the guitar along with the piano lessons his parents had him taking. Around the age of fourteen, Willie realized the guitar was going to be his instrument of choice. He boldly told his mother that the piano lessons had to stop and instead, he started writing songs on the guitar.

Willie Herath recently sat down with De Novo Magazine to discuss life, music, and happiness.

Moreno: Thank you Willie for joining me today. At what age did you realize your passion for music/performance art?

Herath: I’ve always been interested in music and the whole entertainment industry, but never thought that it could be a possibility. I was living in France after high school, I had just turn 18, and to get away from hearing French all day, I would write songs. Lucky for me, Europeans love American music, so they enjoyed hearing my songs, even though they were written in English.

Project Runway's Steven Rosengard

Read our interview with Project Runway's Steven Rosengard

Moreno: What was your favorite movie growing up?

Rosengard: I was hooked on E.T. like any other kid, but until I was in my early teens, Amadeus was true addiction. While it was still in theaters, I would beg and whine and plead to go and see it, "just one more time." Finally, I was put on rotation with any cousin, aunt, sibling or neighbor who could handle seeing the movie again. The blood dripping from Salieri's throat made me cringe and cover my eyes, but the music combined with the costumes would just carry me away after that. Odd behavior for a seven year old, no? But then in junior high, Gone With the Wind took over my life and I wanted to see everyone in hoopskirts.

Moreno: What did you parents do?

Rosengard: My father worked in railroad marketing and logistics. My mother was a homemaker most of the time, but from time-to-time, she took little odd jobs for fun.

Moreno: What was your first job?

Rosengard: It was bagging groceries for a couple of months before moving on to working at a Jamaican chicken rotisserie restaurant.

Moreno: At what age did you encounter your interest in fashion?

Rosengard: I was probably 11 or so. We were on a house-hunting trip in Waterloo, and my sister brought her classmate along to keep her company. This friend could draw quite well and so I asked her to show me how to draw people. It took about an hour but then I thought, "this isn't so hard. But now they need different clothes all the time." It just so happened that we took a house next door to the town seamstress. I already had a good collection of Barbie and Jem dolls to work with, so I took scraps from the seamstress and started making miniature dresses.

Tailor Made VS Buddha: I Love New York

So, we have come down to the final two. In the finale we will see Tailor Made and Buddha go head-to-head in the battle of New York’s heart; at least, this is what we think. Can two individuals fall in love in such a short amount of time, then be forced to live separate lives, only to be reunited months later at a reunion show? This may be a tough one to call, but it will be interesting to see who New York selects. There are obviously two choices; Tailor Made or Buddha. However loyal Ms. New York fans are, can we deny that we are secretly rooting for I Love New York Season 3? Consider this, if New York finds true love, what will happen to New York’s fans who tune in every week for their slice of drama, fun, and love? You’re right, we will have our Rock of Love Season 2 and Flavor of Love 3 (shout out to Sargent Beverly), but we cannot deny we will miss New York, the guys, and Sister Patterson. Hopefully, VH1 will have something in the works for New York.

ANTM: Janet Mills Interview

Visit De Novo Magazine to read Jeremy Van Cise's Interview with Top Model, Janet Mills. Van Cise asks Mills about who she thinks will win and who she didn't really care for.

Interview Clip:

Van Cise: What did you think was the reason you were eliminated and did you agree?

Mills: I’m not exactly sure of the reason for my elimination. They said it was a bad photo shoot, but I think it was actually one of my best ones. I guess I'm not high fashion enough for this season, and I'm sure if I would have ruffled a few more feathers I would have stayed around a bit longer. America loves drama!

Make Rejection Your Motivation

TITLE: MAKE REJECTION YOUR MOTIVATION

Perhaps you’re beginning to hear the same old thing, “Thank you for trying, but it’s not going to work.” Or, “You’re not what we are looking for.” Whatever the reason may be, you name it, we’ve all heard it. Rejection is a part of life. Some of us can accept rejection and use it to our advantage. Rejection can be a wonderful motivation. It is the belief of many successful Hollywood elites that in order to be a true success, one must endure countless rejection. Research your favorite actor, politician, humanitarian or inspirational figure and you’ll find that rejection was always there. If you’re eager to make a name for yourself, don’t let your pride or ego get in the way of your dreams. Also, don’t idolize or compare yourself to others in the industry. The moment you begin to compare your life to theirs, you’ve set yourself up for disappointment. Everyone has our own path to make and follow, so it shouldn’t matter what anyone else is doing. Save your time and energy working on yourself and career.
